Memorial Day in Sandbridge marks the first big weekend for the tourist season, but it is important that we remember the reason behind this long holiday weekend that spurs cookouts, parades and pool parties.
Memorial Day was established on May 5, 1868, by a proclamation by General John Logan. It was originally called “Decoration Day,” but that was eventually changed to the current name, Memorial Day.
Originally, it was a holiday to honor those killed in the Civil War. After World War I, the country collectively began to remember and honor anyone killed in any American conflict. Ever since the holiday was first observed, it has been a time to visit the graves of soldiers and decorate them with flowers and flags.
On Monday please take a moment to pause with us for a moment of silence and remember those who have fought for our country.
The SBH Real Estate Team would like to take this opportunity to remember the Veterans and heroes who served and sacrificed so much. Our country is great because they selflessly risked it all to protect our freedoms. We honor those who have lost their lives in any conflict or war and we extend our thanks to those who serve today.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
