City Council representative Barbara Henley along with project coordinator Dan Adams announced to Civic League members during our February meeting that plans are going into place for a end of July to mid-August start for our next sand nourishment project. The plan calls for 1.5 million cubic yards to be pumped onto the beach from Little Island Park to the Dam Neck Base at the north end of Sandbridge. No federal participation is expected, funds will come from the STD and TIF funds. The City of Virginia Beach plans to set up a web page to update everyone on the project as it gets closer. This is good news for the beach, as we are close to the pre-nourishment levels from the last project in 2007. The other update was that the Tuna Lane beach access will be the first to get an improvement with this project being completed prior to Memorial Day. Improvements include handicap accessibility, bike racks, and a load and unload spot for vehicles.
