On Friday, December 16, Congress passed legislation allowing the Army Corps of Engineers to participate in the Sand Replenishment Project. This is very positive news for the community as the bill was passed by the House of Representatives in July and has since been delayed in the Senate.
Congressman Scott Rigell, Senator Mark Warner, Mayor Will Sessoms, Councilmember Barbara Henley and Replenishment Committee Chair Dick Dunleavy have contributed heavily to the success of this legislation passing.
No official date has been set to begin the project, but it is expected to start sometime in 2012.
Mayor Sessoms said, “This is a win for Sandbridge property owners and visitors and a win for the federal government.”
