Turtle Release with Sandbridge Connection

Turtle Release with Sandbridge Connection
June 16, 2010 sandbridgehouses

The Virginia Aquarium  released on June 15th  a dozen Kemp’s ridley turtles rehabilitated in Virginia and Massachusetts to make space available for any turtles affected by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Ten turtles suffering from cold stunning were found in Massachusetts’ Cape Cod Bay in November and December. Cold stunning occurs when sea turtles are exposed to extremely cold water.

One of the turtles was rescued in Sandbridge Beach by Bill and Anne Gassett. Anne was called by the Aquarium and asked if she wanted to release the turtle they had saved, she gladly accepted the opportunity. See link for a video of the release.
