In October of 2010 Sandbridge resident Kevin Wong was aboard The Wave Runner when he reeled in a very unique fish. Kevin’s catch was a 8lb 5 oz Alfonsino. Alfonsino’s are a deep water fish that reside in temperate and tropical ocean waters. Kevin caught this deep sea creature nearby Norfolk Canyon which is approximately 10 miles off of Virginia Beach. Kevin’s initial record was submitted as a Darwin’s Slimehead. However, after some time his record catch was corrected as an “exotic” and Kevin was notified that his record was approved in April 2011. Kevin said the fish will be mounted soon!
